John GorhamJohn Gorham

John Gorham is the chef and owner of Portland restaurants Toro Bravo, Tasty n Sons and Tasty n Alder. A four-time James Beard Award nominated chef, his cookbook Toro Bravo: Stories. Recipes. No Bull was published by McSweeney’s in the fall of 2013. After several years of cooking in San Francisco at restaurants such as Restaurant LuLu and Café Centro, he moved back to Portland in 2001. In 2003, he helped pioneer Portland’s trend in artisan charcuterie when he purchased Viande Meats & Sausages, and Viande was awarded Artisan of the Year by Willamette Week in 2006. Following Viande, John founded Simpatica Supper Club, where John’s tapas dinner was named by USA Today as the #1 meal in the world in 2006. Soon after, he sold Viande and Simpatica, traveled to Spain, and brought back recipes, ideas and a vision for a tapas bar that would soon become Toro Bravo. In Toro Bravo’s opening year in 2007, Portland Monthly named John Chef of the Year and Willamette Week named Toro Bravo Restaurant of the Year.
