Executive Chef Jason McClure

Madrid born chef Jason McClure spent his childhood moving from town to town in tow as an Airforce brat before his family settled in the Arizona desert. Growing up in a household with exposure and appreciation for many types of cuisines and cultures naturally led him to the restaurant business. He worked in various restaurants in the Phoenix /Scottsdale area before moving to Flagstaff Arizona where he would continue to work and build his culinary talents while attending and graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality management from Northern Arizona University.

From Arizona, Jason traveled to the Minneapolis area to open a small farm to table format restaurant , “Citron,” embracing the seasonality and working with a multitude of artisans and farmers in the region before following his heart back to the west coast settling in Seattle in 1997. Upon arrival in Seattle, Jason joined the boutique restaurant and hotel company, Kimpton, as Executive chef for Sazerac restaurant where he remained at the helm for 19 years until 2015 when he went to San Francisco to build a start-up home meal kit business.

In 2016 Jason wanted to return and focus on a project back in Seattle, taking the reigns at the institution that is Matt’s in the Market. “For me it’s about honoring this very special spot, center of the universe, as far as Seattle is concerned. Bringing together a group of very talented chefs from diverse backgrounds, focusing on solid technique, taking inspiration from everything around us to yield the best rendition of Matt’s yet!”
